Jenny Schwartz is an Australian author of 'strangely hopeful' science fiction and fantasy, writing from Perth in Western Australia.
Trained as both a historian and, as she puts it, a futurist, she got her start when Harlequin launched its first digital-only imprint and took her on as a debut author, and has since spent more than a decade publishing independently across a remarkable range - science fiction, fantasy, steampunk, cosy fantasy and romance - united by warm, character-driven storytelling and a fondness for optimism and happy endings.
Her Uncertain Sanctuary series opens with The House That Walked Between Worlds, following Dr Kira Aist - a descendant of Baba Yaga - as she travels the worlds in a sentient House, in a vein its admirers liken to Ursula Le Guin and Diana Wynne Jones. Very different in flavour, the Bustlepunk Chronicles bring 'steampunk light' to the Western Australian goldrush of the 1890s, while her Caldryn Parliament series pays homage to golden-age detective fiction in a galactic setting.
An enthusiast, by her own account, who is 'a decent cook, an appalling musician, and an Art Deco enthusiast', she writes hopeful, heartfelt speculative fiction for readers who like a happy-ever-after.
