Hiro Fujiwara is a Japanese shojo manga artist, born in 1981, best known as the creator of the enormously popular romantic comedy Maid-sama!
She began her career in the early 2000s, winning newcomer prizes from the shojo magazine LaLa - to which she has long been a mainstay contributor - and made her name with the series that would define her.
Kaichou wa Maid-sama!, known in English simply as Maid-sama!, ran from 2006 to 2013 across eighteen volumes. It follows Misaki Ayuzawa, the fierce, capable student council president of a formerly all-boys high school, who secretly works part-time at a maid café to support her family - a secret discovered by the school's most popular boy, Takumi Usui, whose teasing slowly turns to something warmer. Sharp, funny and swooningly romantic, it became a shojo favourite and was adapted into a much-loved 2010 anime series.
She has continued to draw for LaLa in the years since, returning now and then to her most famous creation, whose student-council president remains one of the genre's most beloved heroines.
