Jakob Tanner is a Canadian author of LitRPG and GameLit, writing game-flavoured fantasy adventure from Toronto, where he was born in 1991.
He studied English literature at the University of Toronto and now, by his own account, splits his time between writing and working at a bookshop, combining his loves of fantasy, anime and video games into fast, propulsive stories - aiming, as he says, for books that are 'entertaining, unputdownable, and action-packed'.
His Arcane Kingdom Online series, set inside an immersive virtual game, is his bestselling work, while Second Chance Swordsman gives the progression-fantasy formula a time-and-reincarnation twist, its hero granted a do-over to master the sword. Further series such as Tower Climber, in which adventurers ascend an endless, deadly tower, and the newer Apocalypse Slayer keep him firmly in the levelling-up, system-driven territory his readers love.
A self-professed fan of The Matrix, Fullmetal Alchemist and Dune, he writes the kind of brisk, gamer-friendly fantasy that is easy to pick up and hard to put down.
