S.L. Rowland is an American author of cosy fantasy and LitRPG, writing from the mountains of East Tennessee.
Born in the South and a lifelong gamer and tabletop-RPG enthusiast, he came to writing through post-apocalyptic short stories in college - 'the first time I ever really had fun writing' - before turning full time to the game-structured fantasy he loves. A self-described 'pantser' who writes without an outline, he serialises his work chapter by chapter on Royal Road and Patreon before publishing it.
His Pangea Online trilogy - Death and Axes, Magic and Mayhem and Vials and Tribulations - is a full-immersion virtual-world LitRPG, while his own favourite, Sentenced to Troll, sends a man into a therapeutic game where he is forced to live as a despised forest troll, mixing sarcasm and humour with real feeling. More recently he has found a wide audience with Tales of Aedrea, a warm, low-stakes fantasy sequence whose opener, Cursed Cocktails, follows a retired blood mage who hangs up his sword to open a seaside cocktail bar.
A devoted, long-suffering Atlanta sports fan, he shares his home with a Shiba Inu named Lawson.
