Amelia Sides is an American author of fantasy and science fiction, who writes in the evenings around a day job in clinical-information-systems programming - a 'double life' she cheerfully acknowledges.
Based in South Carolina, and publishing independently since 2013, she is drawn to stories of 'magic, adventure, and finding your way home', with complex heroes and a thread of political intrigue.
Her Stone Mage series opens with The Mage's Daughter, set in the land of Arden, where an orphaned young mage - long mistreated and exploited by a neglectful uncle - must find her own way once the king decrees that all mages be given proper instruction; it continues in Shattered Stone. A very different book, An Unkindness of Magic, turns to 'murder and blood magic in 1919 London', following a captain home from the First World War to find the mages of his old unit turning up dead, while her GameLit novel I don't want to fight! plays in a lighter key.
A lover of plants, anime and long walks with her dog, Reuben, she has also published poetry, and writes fantasy for readers who like their magic grounded in real feeling.
