J.P. Valentine is a self-published author of comic LitRPG and fantasy, writing from California, who came to the craft, by his own cheerful admission, 'entirely by accident'.
A voracious childhood reader turned web-serial writer - he posts online under the handle Nixia - he was pushed into publishing by 'a surprise burst of online readers', and has since built a following for fast, funny, mechanics-savvy adventure. He sums up his mission, only half-joking, as an 'eternal quest to trick people into reading poetry'.
His best-known work is This Trilogy is Broken, a comedy LitRPG whose 'trilogy' runs to four books - This Quest is Bullshit!, This Class is Bonkers! and their successors - in which Eve, a lowly Level 1 Messenger Girl sent to fetch bread, watches the errand escalate to 'Legendary' difficulty and survives by gleefully abusing the rules of her world. Alongside it he writes the fantasy of The Saga of the Nothing Mage and The Stargazer's War, and even a full narrative fantasy poem, The Crow King's Son.
Self-deprecating and quick-witted, he writes exactly the kind of clever, irreverent adventure that made him a reader in the first place.
