Jay Boyce is an author of LitRPG and progression fantasy who came to novels from the other side of the desk, as an editor.
She had written stories since childhood - Harry Potter fan fiction from the age of ten - but set writing aside until a serious autoimmune diagnosis in 2018 changed her mind: life was short, she decided, and she needed to do what she wanted. A self-described 'pantser' who works without an outline, she draws openly on her own vivid lucid dreams and names Anne McCaffrey, Tamora Pierce and Mercedes Lackey among her influences.
Her main series, A Touch of Power, begins with Siphon, in which a terminally ill young woman finds herself suddenly whole and well in the game-like world of Andara, and grows into a system-driven magic across Adapt, Sense and Insight. In Rise of the Mystic Mage she turns to a heroine reborn five years in her own past, using knowledge from a virtual game to live her life over.
The daughter of a librarian, and known among readers for 'collecting the rainbow' in dice, wigs and mugs, she is a warm, engaged presence at conventions and online.
