Ian Nathan is a British film writer and journalist, one of the UK's best-known chroniclers of cinema, based in London.
A former editor and executive editor of Empire, the film magazine, where he remains a contributing editor, he has written for The Times, The Independent and France's Cahiers du Cinéma, and appears on screen in documentary series about film. But he is best known for a shelf of handsome, deeply researched books about the movies and the people who make them.
Chief among them is Anything You Can Imagine, a definitive account of Peter Jackson's long journey to bring The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit to the screen, drawn from extensive first-hand interviews. He has also written the making-of histories Alien Vault and Terminator Vault, and a series of richly illustrated monographs on major directors - among them Tim Burton, Guillermo del Toro, the Coen Brothers, Quentin Tarantino and Wes Anderson - as well as The Coppolas, a portrait of that filmmaking dynasty.
