Sarah Rees Brennan is an Irish fantasy novelist, born in 1983 and possessed of one of the most distinctive comic voices in the genre.
Born by the sea in Ireland, she has lived in London, New York and Melbourne, and now lives in Dublin near a library founded in 1707.
Her debut, The Demon's Lexicon, was longlisted for the Carnegie Medal, and she followed it with the romantic gothic Lynburn Legacy series and In Other Lands, the tale of the crankiest nerd ever to fall into a magical land, which was a finalist for the Lodestar Award and has become a beloved cult classic.
She has also written tie-in novels for Netflix's Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, graphic novels, and collaborations with Cassandra Clare in the Shadowhunters universe.
A survivor of late-stage cancer, she channelled that experience into her first book for adults: Long Live Evil, the tale of a dying young woman who walks into her favourite fantasy book to find herself a villain, which debuted as a number one Sunday Times bestseller and appeared on both The New York Times Best of Fantasy and Best of Romance lists for 2024. Its sequel, All Hail Chaos, is coming soon.
