Natania Barron is an American fantasy author who believes in monsters and hopes you do too, as her official bio has it, long preoccupied with mythology, monsters, mayhem and magic.
She holds a BA in English from Loyola University Maryland and an MA in medieval literature from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, scholarly grounding that shows in fiction lush with historical texture, and she's separately known online for her ThreadTalks, deep dives into forgotten corners of fashion history.
Her debut Pilgrim of the Sky appeared in 2011, followed by the novella collection These Marvelous Beasts, but Queen of None is her defining work: the story of Anna Pendragon, King Arthur's forgotten sister, married off at twelve for her name, her dowry and her womb, who returns to Carelon a widow and decides to stop being invisible, whatever the cost of tangling with Merlin's machinations.
Kirkus called it a captivating look at the intriguing figures of Arthur's golden realm, and it won the Manly Wade Wellman Award in 2021 before Solaris reissued it as the opener of the Queens of Fate trilogy, completed by Queen of Fury and Queen of Mercy, for readers of Circe and The Witch's Heart. Her queer Regency romantasy series Love in Netherford, beginning with Netherford Hall, runs alongside.
