Broccoli Lion is the pen name of the Japanese author behind The Great Cleric (Seija Muso), a popular isekai light-novel series. Like many light-novel writers, they keep no public biography, and little about the person behind the name has been made known.
The Great Cleric began as a web novel on the Japanese platform Shosetsuka ni Naro ('Let's Become a Novelist'), serialised from 2015 to 2022, before being picked up for print by Micro Magazine. It follows a Japanese office worker who, killed by a stray gunshot, is reincarnated in a fantasy world as Luciel, a young healer who sets about reforming a corrupt Church while making a new life for himself - a warm, steady take on the reincarnation-adventure tradition rather than a grim or violent one.
Illustrated by Sime and released in English by J-Novel Club, the series has grown into a franchise, with a manga adaptation by Hiiro Akikaze and a 2023 anime. It remains Broccoli Lion's defining and best-known work.
