R. Cooper is the pen name of an American author of queer romance, best loved for warm, gentle paranormal love stories set in worlds where the magical and the mundane must learn to live together.
Writing for more than a decade, both with traditional publishers and independently, and from a small house among the Northern California redwoods, she describes herself as 'a somewhat absentminded, often distracted writer of queer romance' - and, with a smile, as 'the one who writes the dragons'.
Her signature series, Being(s) in Love, imagines a world where dragons, fairies, werewolves and other magical 'beings' emerged from hiding amid the upheavals of the First World War, and now seek love and belonging in a society run by humans; it begins with A Boy and His Dragon. Alongside it she writes the witches-and-familiars urban fantasy of Familiar Spirits, the historical romance of A Suitable 'Verse, and standalone tales such as the high-fantasy novella How to (Not) Train a Firecat.
A staunch advocate for libraries and affordable reading, she lives with a very loud cat in a house she claims is faintly haunted, and writes the kind of tender, hopeful romance she loves best.
