Dave Willmarth is a self-published author of LitRPG - game-structured fantasy adventure - who turned a lifetime's gaming into a prolific second career.
A gamer since the 1970s, raised on Dungeons & Dragons and later a decade-plus of online worlds, he discovered the LitRPG genre in 2016 and started writing the following year while still holding down a long-standing day job. When the books took off he left a twenty-five-year career, in 2019, to write full time, and has since produced novels at a formidable rate.
His debut series, the Greystone Chronicles, opens with Io Online, an unexpected hit set inside an immersive virtual game. His other signature series, Battleborne, is a portal fantasy in which a professional soldier named Max is killed, offered a second life by a Valkyrie, and reborn into a monster-haunted world with a bloodline to match - part survival story, part kingdom-building. Further series such as the post-apocalyptic Shadow Sun and the zombie-themed Dark Elf Chronicles round out his shelf.
Cheerfully self-deprecating - he calls himself 'extremely ADD' and 'an expert-level procrastinator' - he writes from a rural home he shares with a rescue dog named Joey the Miniboss.
