Reia is the pen name of the Japanese author of Accomplishments of the Duke's Daughter, one of the more successful 'reincarnated villainess' light novels. As is usual in the genre, the writer keeps no public biography.
The series began as a self-published web novel in 2015, where it drew a remarkable audience - well over a hundred million page views - before print publication and, in English, release by Seven Seas. Its heroine is a Japanese office worker reborn as Iris, the doomed villainess of an otome game; rather than accept her scripted downfall, she puts a modern head for banking, business and education to work reforming her family's lands and, in time, the kingdom - a smart, briskly optimistic spin on the formula.
Illustrated by Futaba Hazuki and adapted into a manga, the series has sold around half a million copies in Japan across its eight volumes, and Reia has written at least one further series in a similar vein. Accomplishments of the Duke's Daughter remains the defining work.
