Kaya is the pen name of the Japanese author of Taking My Reincarnation One Step at a Time, a gentle 'slow life' reincarnation light novel. As is usual for light-novel writers, no public biography exists, and little about the person behind the name is known.
The story began as a web novel on the Japanese platform Shosetsuka ni Naro ('Let's Become a Novelist') in 2019 before print publication. Its heroine, an exhausted office worker named Sarasa, learns that a lifetime of unexplained tiredness is really a 'mana deficit'; a goddess grants her a fresh start in a fantasy world, in the body of a child, where a kindly monster hunter takes her in and she slowly, contentedly learns magic and the craft of an apothecary - an unhurried tale of gradual growth rather than grand adventure.
Illustrated by Naru, published in English by J-Novel Club and adapted into a manga, the series is Kaya's defining work.
