The second short story collection, comprising eleven stories in the original British edition, continuing the Strand Magazine run that had made Holmes famous. The collection contains strong individual cases and introduces Mycroft Holmes in The Greek Interpreter. It also includes The Final Problem, the most consequential story in the canon, which provoked one of the most dramatic reader reactions in literary history. The Memoirs represents Doyle at his most confident with the short form, and several entries rank among the finest Holmes stories.
