About This Book

Identical twins Jack and Joe Sawyer row for Britain at the 1936 Berlin Olympics. In the war that follows one becomes an RAF bomber pilot and the other a conscientious objector, and their stories split into two versions of history, in one of which Britain makes peace with Germany in 1941. Decades later a historian tries to untangle what really happened.

Arthur C. Clarke Award (Winners)
The Arthur C. Clarke Award is given each year to the best science fiction novel first published in the United Kingdom, chosen by a panel of judges. Founded in 1987 with a grant from Arthur C. Clarke himself, it is Britain’s leading science fiction prize, and its judges have often looked beyond the genre’s usual shelves - its first winner was Margaret Atwood’s The Handmaid’s Tale, and its winners since include China Miéville, who has taken it three times, Station Eleven and The Underground Railroad. This list collects the winning novels by year.
