Set between Wizard and Glass and Wolves of the Calla, this standalone novel finds Roland and his ka-tet sheltering from a lethal storm called a starkblast. To pass the time, Roland tells two stories: one from his early career as a gunslinger, investigating a shape-shifting murderer in the town of Debaria; and within that, a fairy tale - the story of Tim Stoutheart - told to a frightened child. The eighth and final book published in the series, Wind Through the Keyhole sits outside the main sequence chronologically but reads naturally in its narrative position. Self-contained enough to work as an entry point, though best appreciated after Wizard and Glass.
