About This Book

Ten-year-old Jas lives with her strict Reformed family on a dairy farm in the Netherlands. When her older brother Matthies goes skating one winter's day and does not come back, the family comes apart in its grief, and Jas, unable to make sense of what has happened, retreats into a world of her own fears and fantasies.

International Booker Prize (Winners)
The International Booker Prize is awarded each year to a single book of fiction translated into English and published in the UK or Ireland, and its prize money is shared equally between the author and the translator. In its current form it dates from 2016, when it replaced a prize given every two years for an author's whole body of work. Its winners run from Han Kang's The Vegetarian and Olga Tokarczuk's Flights to Banu Mushtaq's Heart Lamp, the first book of short stories to win. This list collects the winning books by year.
